Ladies and gentlemen;

Magandang hapon po sa inyong lahat!

It is my privilege and honor to be here with you this afternoon in another trailblazing activity of the Office of the Ombudsman under the Integrity Caravan, which is a year-long celebration of OMB’s 25th anniversary and more importantly, aims to build a broad-based strategic partnership among key actors, institutions and stakeholders to promote innovative efforts that contribute to greater transparency, accountability and integrity in governance in the country.

I understand that today’s event is almost like a celebration for two good reasons.  First, we are launching the Integrity Development Contest as part of our initiatives to foster integrity among the youth, whom we recognize as the future of the country.  Indeed, anti-corruption efforts cannot function effectively without the existence or development of a general knowledge among the public, especially the youth, who are important movers and watchdogs not only to ensure delivery of services to those who need it most but also to ensure accountable governance in the use of the country’s limited resources.

Second, we celebrate growing partnership with the private sector to propel anti-corruption further.  UNDP believes such cooperation is beneficial for long-term success if we are to win the battle against corruption.  Indeed, the private sector can significantly contribute in the fight against corruption, and in the development effectiveness of the Philippines and in the achievement of the country’s development goals.

We support the efforts of everyone present here this afternoon in the formulation of appropriate measures and programs, such as the Integrity Contest, as well as the generation of commitments for the enhancement of  anti-corruption education not only among the youth but across various sectors in society.

Rest assured the UNDP is behind you and supports your endeavors to fulfill these avowed objectives. May this activity guide and show us the value of promoting integrity education if the country is to achieve its development goals for inclusive growth and alleviate poverty. May it also be an opportunity to create more advocates and champions amongst us.

We congratulate the Office of the Ombudsman and its partners namely SM Holdings, Jollibee Food Corporation, and UP Film Institute for the partnership, nurturing the culture of integrity, and hard work in responding to this call. We are also very pleased with the show of support from our colleagues and international development partners.

We strongly believe in the critical role of the youth, citizens and private sector alike, in good governance to ensure reforms in the areas of policies, structures, programs and processes towards achieving more accountable, transparent and participatory governance systems. Our goal of ending human poverty and achieving sustainable human development rests on engaging and empowering youth, women, public and private sectors as well as strengthening partnerships among all of us.

Maraming salamat po at mabuhay tayong lahat!
