Philippines - United Nations and its partners prepare to support Government in response to Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)
The United Nations in the Philippines and its partners are supporting the Government in assessing the damage currently being caused by Typhoon Haiyan (known locally as Yolanda). The super typhoon made landfall in Guiuan on Samar Island at 4.30 a.m. and is currently making its way across the country.

Secretary-General concerned about security of United Nations personnel, humanitarian workers in increasingly challenging environments
“United Nations personnel serve in an increasingly dangerous environment and encounter a variety of threats not previously encountered in the history of the Organization,” United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says in a report to the General Assembly released today. Citing the safety and security of United Nations personnel as his highest priority, the Secretary-General also appeals to Member States and host Governments to support all measures of safety and security to improve the operational environment for United Nations personnel and humanitarian workers.

Philippines - UN and partners seek US $46.8 million to respond to acute needs after Bohol earthquake
The United Nations and humanitarian partners in the Philippines are launching an action plan that seeks US$46.8 million, to meet the acute needs of the victims of the Bohol Earthquake. The plan supports Government priorities including emergency shelter for 344,000 displaced and homeless people, water, sanitation and hygiene, debris removal and coordination, as well as other life-saving interventions.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the top-ranked multilateral organization in aid transparency according to a leading global ranking released today. Publish What You Fund’s 2013 Aid Transparency Index recognized UNDP for its “ambitious” efforts to publish information beyond international standards this year, placing it fourth overall out of 67 major donors evaluated worldwide.

In support of anti-corruption initiatives of the Government of the Philippines, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its partners hosted a forum today aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in governance. This forum is part of the Integrity Caravan, a year-long series of activities across the country aimed at building broad-based support and strategic partnerships on anti-corruption. The caravan was launched by the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) and UNDP earlier this year.
