United Nations holds first business forum on Sustainable Goals in Asia

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Initiatives will welcome over 600 global business leaders, senior government officials, UN Agencies and NGO’s from across the globe for the Responsible Business Forum on Sustainable Development on 22nd-24th November at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Under the theme of Innovation and Collaboration to Deliver the Global Goals and in partnership with the UNDP for the first time, this year's Responsible Business Forum (RBF) will examine each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) in depth with case studies and insights from businesses, governments, UN agencies and international experts.
A year after the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals, this year’s event will help business and governments better identify how they can align their objectives to address the world's biggest challenges - hunger, sustainable living, climate change, gender equality, health, clean water and inequality – the SDG’s, and contribute toward a sustainable future.
“We are going to face an unprecedented population aging, the temperature continues to rise and September was the hottest month on record, and the gap between the haves and have nots is widening. There is a consensus that we need a systemic change to prevent the worst-case scenario. It may seem like an enormous challenge, but we have a plan, the SDGs, and we have the knowledge and resources to make our world sustainable,” says Haoliang Xu,UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Director for Asia-Pacific “The Responsible Business Forum will bring together leaders who want to advance the rising sustainability movement in Asia-Pacific.”
This year's Forum is the most ambitious to date, with 600 cross-industry delegates participating from across the globe. Key speakers at the event include; Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development, Singapore, Michelle Yeoh, UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister for National Development Planning, Indonesia,Sathasivam Subramaniam, Minister of Health, Malaysia, Haoliang Xu, Assistant Secretary General for UN and Director, Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Erik Solheim, Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme, Malcolm Preston, Global Leader for Sustainability at PWC, George Tanasijevich, CEO, Marina Bay Sands Singapore, Andrew Morlet, Chief Executive, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Marco Lambertini, Director General, WWF International, Erin Meezan, Chief Sustainability Officer, Interface, Jimmy Pang, President, Global Government Affairs, Huawei, Mark Cliffe, Chief Economist, ING and Peter Wong, President, Dow Asia Pacific among many others.
5 Ministers and 8 Senior government representatives from around the Asia Pacific region will include senior government officials from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Myanmar and Japan. The full RBF agenda can be found here.

Over 50 leading corporate brands will present their business cases for SDG integration, including GlaxoSmithKline, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Huawei, ANZ Bank, Interface, Autodesk, KKR, Dow Chemical, Ericsson, ING Bank, Amcor, DSM, Singtel, APRIL, Syngenta, Microsoft, Panasonic, Ericsson, Visa, Philips, Sodexo, and Facebook, among many others.
On 23 November, the agenda will explore the most pressing issues, from ending poverty, achieving good health, smart cities, clean water, affordable energy and gender equality. Underpinning this will be a focus on collaboration and establishing new partnerships that bring together players from all arenas - public, private and the third sector - and the creation of new policy frameworks to support the SDGs. 24 November will discuss climate change, ocean health, deforestation, responsible consumption and production.
