    Coconut debris cleared by next year

    TACLOBAN CITY -- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is eyeing to clear by next year six million coconut trees that were toppled or uprooted by typhoon Yolanda a year ago. Eden P. Garde, UNDP project manager for UNDP’s Yolanda recovery program, said the UN agency has set aside P22.4 million for the clearing project.

    Youth calls for progressive thinking, inclusiveness and equality

    Recognizing the importance of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) held a forum on “Diversity and Human Rights: A Forum on the legal and social environments of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons and civil society in the Philippines” in Cagayan de Oro City. The forum was conducted in partnership with Oro Youth Development Council (OYDC) of Cagayan de Oro City Local Government, and two local NGOs Hulagway CDO and Tingug CDO.

    UNDP, UNICEF collaborate to restore documentation services of Yolanda-hit LGUs

    20 August 2014, Manila -- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) signed today an agreement to provide assistance in restoring the documentation services of LGUs severely affected by Typhoon Yolanda. With a budget of over USD 1 million provided by UNICEF, UNDP will implement the project in 10 selected municipalities and cities in Eastern Samar and Eastern Leyte, focusing on civil registration services and prioritizing vulnerable groups such as women, children and poor families.

    National Launch and Press Conference : 2014 Human Development Report (HDR)

    The 2014 Human Development Report (HDR) highlights the need for both promoting people’s choices and protecting human development achievements. It takes the view that vulnerability threatens human development and, unless it is systematically addressed, progress will be neither equitable nor sustainable. This Report focuses on the people at greatest risk and on key underlying drivers of vulnerability. It analyzes structural causes – social marginalization, position in society and insufficient public services – and pays attention to the different vulnerabilities faced at different stages of the life cycle.
